Renting Near Phuket's International Schools: Where Families Live and What It Costs

By Islander Home Team

Back to journal

For families moving to Phuket, the school usually decides the neighbourhood. Morning traffic on the island is real, and a house twenty minutes from school on paper can be forty at 7:30. So we looked at which rentals owners describe as close to each of the main international schools, and what a family home near each one costs.

The figures come from the 412 long-term rentals we list as of late September 2026. A rental is counted for a school when its owner names that school as nearby. "Family home" means a house, villa or townhouse with three or more bedrooms.

Rows with only a handful of homes are a rough guide; one new listing can move the median.

BISP: Koh Kaew has the most choice

British International School is the school owners mention most, and 38 of the 52 homes naming it are in Koh Kaew. The area is built around it: gated villages such as Saransiri, Supalai Lake Ville, Habitown and Passorn are a few minutes' drive or walk away. Almost all of these are three- and four-bedroom houses, and at a median of ฿55,000 a month Koh Kaew is good value for the space.

HeadStart: spread across three areas

HeadStart has campuses in both Kathu and Cherng Talay, so its homes are spread out: 11 in Phuket Town, 9 in Kathu and 8 each in Chalong and Bang Tao. Check which campus your child will attend before you choose a house; Kathu and Cherng Talay are a long drive apart at rush hour.

BCIS: Chalong, at a premium

Almost every home that names BCIS is in Chalong (28 of 33). Family homes here have the highest median of any school, ฿91,000 a month, because many are pool villas in the Palai and Chalong Bay area. There are still ordinary houses at around ฿50,000.

UWC Thailand: Thalang, quieter and greener

UWC and the Thanyapura sports resort are in the north, and 9 of the 10 homes naming them are in Thalang. It is the quietest of the school areas, with larger plots and more pool villas for the money.

Before you sign

  • Drive the school run at the real time. Do the trip from the house to the school gate at 7:30 on a weekday before committing.
  • Match the lease to the school year. Most leases here are for one year. If you start in August, ask for a start date that fits the term.
  • Ask about the village. Gated estates with a shared pool and playground are popular with school families, and neighbours often share the school run.

For what each area costs in general, see Phuket rent by area, and for the lease itself, before you sign a lease in Phuket.
