Pet-Friendly Rentals in Phuket: Where Your Dog or Cat Is Welcome

By Islander Home Team

Back to journal

Moving to Phuket with a dog or a cat narrows the search more than most people expect. Many owners simply do not mention pets, and a fair number say no outright, so it pays to know where the yes answers are before you start viewing.

The figures below come from the 412 long-term rentals we have listed as of late September 2026. We counted a home as pet-friendly only when the listing says so in words, such as "pet friendly", "pets welcome" or "small pets accepted".

How many rentals accept pets

  • 47 rentals (about 11%) say pets are welcome.
  • 54 rentals (about 13%) say no pets.
  • The other three quarters do not say either way. Many of those owners will consider a pet if you ask, especially a small, house-trained one.

Pet-friendly does not mean more expensive. The median asking rent of the pet-friendly homes is ฿55,000 a month, exactly the same as the median for every long-term rental we list.

Where the pet-friendly homes are

AreaPet-friendly rentalsAll long-term rentalsMedian rent (pet-friendly)
Thalang1143฿45,000
Chalong1072฿58,500
Koh Kaew858฿59,000
Bang Tao767฿75,000
Rawai663฿65,000
Kathu252฿50,000
Kamala25฿82,500

Thalang stands out. A quarter of its rentals welcome pets, and at a median of ฿45,000 they are the most affordable. Thalang's gated villages near Robinson Thalang and the Heroines Monument have larger plots and gardens, which is exactly what makes owners relaxed about dogs.

Kathu is the hardest. Only 2 of its 52 rentals say pets are welcome. Much of Kathu's stock is condominiums, and most condo buildings have a no-pets rule that the owner cannot override.

Houses, not condos

Of the 47 pet-friendly homes, 43 are houses, villas or townhouses and only 4 are condominiums. If you have a dog, look at houses first. A few exceptions exist, such as the pet-friendly apartment at The Base, Cherng Talay and the mountain-view apartment at Villa Hill, Kamala, but they are rare.

A few pet-friendly homes from the current list:

What to agree with the landlord

  • Get it in the contract. A verbal "pets are fine" is not enough. The lease should name the pet, or at least the number and type of animals allowed.
  • Expect a pet deposit. Some owners ask for an extra month's deposit, or a fixed pet deposit, returned at the end if there is no damage.
  • Check the village rules. Gated estates can have their own rules on dogs walking in common areas or using the pool, separate from the owner's.
  • Agree on the garden and the pool. If the dog digs or the pool needs extra cleaning, decide in advance who pays.
  • Photograph the house at move-in. Scratched doors and floors are the most common deposit dispute with pets.
